I went through a Fist of the White Lotus phase. I became transfixed by the choreography, the movements, and the super-humanness of the characters. It translated to climbing and storytelling. The cinematography with it’s quick-zoom, close-ups, sweeps left and right, became an element of the story. Plus the brilliant humor and near-absurdity – which, relates to rock climbing for me. It’s such an absurdly human construct, isn’t it?
I still watch this film and think: this is basically bouldering.
