:::::::::::THE FILM SIDE::::::::::::::::::
- 6/18/06: On June 8 I finished my first feature-length screenplay. Red Mud is dramatic story of three brothers who living a life of crime in rural Oklahoma and one brother who will do anything to get out. It has been submitted to the AAA Screenplay Competition which is sponsored by Creative Screenwriting Magazine. I have also finished two shorts, a twisted little mystery entitled Locker and an office comedy called Paper Jam. Future plans are to continue writing my next feature, improve my writing by attending a screewriting class, and enter some more screenwriting competitions.
- 11/27/05: Man, this is crazy, I haven't updated this page in so long it's ridiculous. I've written a couple of shorts but haven't produced anything yet. I'm out on the OK Movie Makers site daily - get all their news, etc. I'm realizing that Tulsa has a much more active seen than down here (OKC/Norman). They have shoots going on every week. I'd like to sign up to assist on one but just haven't made the time - doing other stuff I guess. I have been shooting a lot more footage lately with my DV camera. Mainly, collecting clips for a new direction I'm heading - live video art, what I like to think of as "live movies." I've been trying out a few pieces of software and found GridPro to be most suitable for what I want to do. I've been demo-ing it for a few weeks now. It has the capability of mixing video clips similar to how a dj mixes music. It feels very intuitive to me and how I think and work - kind of on-the-fly, create as you go, trial-and-error...you get the picture. My hope is that I can collect clips in order to tell a story, live. In this way the story may be a little different each time, making each telling of it unique. I went through all my tapes and footage this weekend and archived it in a spreadsheet so I know exactly what I have and where it is on the tape. This helps when it comes to wanting to find a piece of footage quickly. I'm also running into an issue with hard-drive space as I have been capturing more footage, editing, and playing around with it in GridPro - so I'll probably be getting an external HD soon.
- 5/27/05: I've been working daily on a screenplay for the past few weeks and finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to tell you the name and what it's about and all of that but it seems like each time I come up with a name that I think is good someone else grabs it. For example, I was working on this story entitled "Closer" a couple of years ago - and what do you know, a movie comes out with that very title. I guess they thought it was a good title too. Anyway, I have a better title for it now so it doesn't really matter. As far as what the story is about - well, again, I can't say right now. This is just the first of many to come. Actually, I have about 10 different screenplays that I've started and come back to now and then depending upon what mood I'm in.
- 1//7/05: I'm posing some new links on this page. These links include new film and dv resources and articles that I've discovered. Also, I am starting a screenplay links section which will include links to screenplays which I've read and enjoy. If you haven't read a screenplay - give it shot, you might like them as much as the movies they portray. So, you ask, why in the world is Dumb and Dumber the first screenplay on the list? it just happens to be one that I read recenlty and had the link readily available. If it's not your think - don't worry - I'm adding others.
- 1/02/04: I completed a personal film project that I have been working on for over a year. It involved capturing Super 8 film footage and transferring it to digital and making a DVD. It turned out awesome - and I am very happy that it is done and I can move on with my next project.
- I am listed as an Final Cut Pro on Apple's website, check it out.
- 10/10/04: I attended the 2-day film school a couple of weeks back and it was awesome. Really awesome. It really helped put "the business" into perspective. I am working on a screenplay now which should be done in a few months and ready to submit to production companies. I will be adding more film information - more than climbing.
- 9/15/04: As I said on the notes page, i am going to a 2-day film school on Sept 24 and 25. There's a lot I'm looking forward to learning about - organization, budgeting, distribution, film festivals. Should be a great learning experience. I will you this knowledge to start a new project I'm working on...something I've been thinking about off and on for a while now but haven't yet taken on in full - yet.
